Program Assistant and Urban Farm Assistant
This is a Canada Summer Jobs position for the duration of 8 weeks, 37.5 hours per week. To be eligible, candidates must:
be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment ; and,
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
Terms of Employment:
Temporary Full Time – 37.5 hours/wk
Monday – Friday; from July 4, 2022 for 8 weeks (the position will include some Sat/Sun, depending on program delivery needs)
Who we are looking for:
An enthusiastic young person wanting to learn more about Japanese culture, growing heirloom Japanese vegetables, participating in the Nikkei Garden Farmers Market, the Powell Street Festival and assisting with activities and programs at Tonari Gumi. In addition, the position requires flexibility and is open to changes in duties.
Education and Experience:
At least one year of post-secondary education (an alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable).
Experience working with not-for-profit organizations an asset
Preference will be given to those with interest in Japanese culture and farming
Full License and Clean Drivers Abstract
Skills:
Skilled in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
Good communication skills
Ability to manage time efficiently
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Must enjoy outdoor field work
