On Oct. 6th at the glamorous Coast Coal Harbour Hotel ballroom, more than 300 guests enjoyed tasting over 40 different varieties of sake and plum wines while munching on tasty appetizers provided by top rated restaurants such as Minami/Miku, Ki, Shu Raku, Hapa Izakaya, Guu, and the Red Chicken Korean Restaurant. Others supplying great food were Kibune Sushi, Aki Restaurant, Zakkushi and Azuma Foods.
Our generous sake suppliers were Artisan Sakemaker, CMC Sake + Wine Merchants, the Association of Pure Sake Promoters of Japan, Axis Planning, Blue Note Wines & Spirits, D Way Beverages, Davamco Charters (Jizake Japan), Select Wine & Spirits Merchants and That’s Life Gourmet.
Our MC’s for the evening were Heidi Hamono, Chair of the Sake Tasting Committee and Aaron McArthur of Global TV. In addition to introducing our performance artist, Etsu Inoue, who created some beautiful hand-brushed calligraphy on the theme of sake, Aaron and Heidi also conducted an exciting live auction of premium sakes, many of which are not available in Canada. This year’s silent auction was also bigger and better than before.
Coupled with an exclusive VIP Dinner which was a fundraiser for Tonari Gumi’s new building, this year’s 11th Annual Sake Tasting Night was a great success and the best ever. Now the challenge is to make the 12th annual event in 2013, even better yet!
