On Monday, December 10th, Tonari Gumi volunteers hosted a Christmas Luncheon Party for the residents of New Sakura-So in Burnaby. More than 20 seniors and 6 Tonari Gumi volunteers participated in a sumptuous luncheon prepared by the volunteers, led by Harry Kishi. Most of the senior participants were those who regularly attend the Gourmet Club activity program conducted by volunteers from Tonari Gumi once a month at the New Sakura-So independent living facility in Burnaby. The seniors were also treated to a traditional Japanese minyo dance demonstration by the Tonari Gumi Minyo dancers directed by their teacher, Mrs. Akemi Komori, plus a solo performance by Mrs. Komori. At the end, everyone enjoyed a rousing game of bingo with guests, Henry and Yvonne Wakabayashi, calling out the numbers and handing out the prizes. It was a warm and enjoyable event to close off the Gourmet Club activities for 2012 and set the stage for another year of good food and good company each month in 2013.
