We would like to introduce our new Community Service Coordinator, Mariko Takashina, who will be taking over from Shihori who has provided dedicated service in this position for the past 5 years. Shihori will be going on to even more productive pursuits as she and her husband are expecting their first baby near the end of January. Mariko, who was born in Ehime-ken, comes with excellent qualifications, having been a school teacher in Japan, raised two teenaged children, and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education. We’re extremely pleased to welcome her as a member of the Tonari Gumi team.

I really feel comfortable at Tonari Gumi, it is very much a “Home Away From Home”. I am excited to work with wonderful staff and volunteers at Tonari Gumi I also look forward to learning many things from the tremendous seniors within the Japanese-Canadian community. 2013 is the year of the snake and I was born in the year of the snake.
