Saturday, August 18 starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Jericho Pond Picnic Area in Jericho Beach Park, Tonari Gumi will be hosting its 2012 Reunion Picnic. Held every two years, this is everyone’s chance to enjoy a great summer tradition—a Japanese Canadian community summer picnic. This is a multi-generational event and we invite everyone that has ever had or wanted to have anything to do with Tonari Gumi to come with their families and friends to Jericho Beach and meet old and new friends. In addition, this year we will be providing information on our new building renovations and looking for everyone’s ideas and input. We will also have displays of nostalgic pictures of past picnics and other Tonari Gumi events.
As with every good picnic, there will be good food (a special bento lunch from Izumi-Ya is included), good company, taiko drums and some fun games for all ages such as “suika wari” (smashing watermelons), relays, and a big old fashioned community tug-a-war. The waters of Jericho Beach are also nearby and so this is an event not to be missed. Tickets (including the lunch) are $10 each for adults and $5 each for children under 12. We will also provide drinks and dessert for everyone. Tickets may be purchased in person at Tonari Gumi or by credit card by telephoning (604) 687-2172 or e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Ticket deadline is August 10th. See you there!!
