Appointment of Masako Arima to TG Staff


Tonari Gumi is pleased to announce that Masako Arima has been selected to be our newest Tonari Gumi staff member.  She will be working at Tonari Gumi for three days each week.  Her duties will focus particularly on taking charge of our new “Lighthouse Iki Iki Project” which will be starting in September.  As the Lighthouse Iki Iki Project Coordinator she will be incorporating some of the aspects of the successful Iki Iki program being held at Nikkei Place and expanding it to include an active outreach program to assist individuals with early stages of dementia and their families and caregivers.  Masako will also be assisting with our Monday, “Homebound Program”, for frail seniors and will also be helping with other programs and activities at Tonari Gumi.  We know that you will enjoy Masako’s lively spirit and enthusiasm.       David Iwaasa (Executive Director)

Masako’s Own Introduction:

My name is Masako Arima, I have begun my new position as Lighthouse Iki Iki Project Coordinator (part-time position).
I have been living in Vancouver for two decades (20 years).  The support that I have received from my friends and family has made my life in Canada successful and enjoyable.
For the past few years I have been a volunteer at Tonari Gumi, while volunteering, I met many people, from the kind and passionate staff members to the strong and fun seniors.  With so many wonderful people who are a part of Tonari Gumi it makes me happy to be part of the team.  My passion is to help others to the best of my abilities and to learn and adapt to new things.
Thank you very much for this opportunity and I look forward to working with Tonari Gumi for many years to come.
